Professional Development Packages

There are a variety of ways to begin implementation of one or more of the Voices curricula in your school and to provide professional development support for this process.

  • Introductory Plan: One approach is to introduce your faculty to Voices and to focus on one or more of the Voices themes or selected social, democratic, language, or literacy competencies.
  • Follow Up Visits: After trying it out, you can decide to add more themes, more competencies, and more days of professional development.
  • Three Days During the Year Plan: If you know you want to implement most or all of the themes, you could decide to provide three additional professional development days (two in the fall and one in the spring) to make sure that teachers get off to a good start.
  • One Day Per Theme Plan: Better yet is providing one day of support for each of the six themes.
  • Two Days Per Theme Plan: With the thirteen day plan, you get two-days of support for each theme which makes it possible for the EFD coach to model and coach in all grade levels (in a K-5 school).

Funding and Sustainability

We very much want to establish long-term, supportive relationships with the schools which want to implement Voices or the Peace & Democracy eBooks and Digital Games. This in part requires coming up with an economically feasible and sustainable  way to fund the implementation of the curricula and programs in your school.

  1. 1. Federal, State, District or School Funds (non-discretionary): The best way to assure long term sustainability is to use your available federal, state, district, or school funds to pay for the professional development package and/or curriculum package that you decide to purchase. With regard to using your own budget (from which ever funding sources), you would need to budget the selected curriculum and professional development packages for each year. Of course, the amount allocated can  vary from year to year based on needs and budget allotments.
  2. Government Funds (discretionary): We are very interested in working with interested school districts and schools to pursue federal programs that provide funding for violence prevention (Project Safety), language and literacy instruction (Title 1). comprehensive school reform (Title 1), continuous improvements in education (CIRE) (add others)
  3. Foundation Funds. We also will work with school districts and school to pursue national and local foundation funding.
  4. The Peace, Litracy & Democracy Project: We are currently pursuing national and local foundations to fund the Peace, Literacy, and Democracy Project. These funds will be used to support schools in high poverty neighborhoods piloting the Peace & Democracy eBooks and Digital Games and the Voices curriculum. If you are in or know of a school that is in a high poverty neighborhood, please contact us.
