4. Teacher Partners
As explained in the research related to whether professional development actually impacts instruction, the most important type of professional development is based on teachers planning and teaching lessons with their partners. In Voices, given that we have a curriculum that all teachers are using, we first have the EFD coaches model and co-teach lessons with selected teachers in one or more grade levels. They are the peer coaches for the teachers. The teachers then use this experience and knowledge to be partner/peer coaches for each other. Typically, in the weeks after the EFD coach visits, the teacher partners have time to plan and teach the selected lessons/strategies/competencies.
